After working several years in the design field, she chose to concentrate in the fine arts. She attended art workshops around the country taught by nationally recognized artists. Payge focused on faith related art and eventually began her teaching career at St. John Paul II Catholic High School in Huntsville Alabama. After twelve years teaching art, Payge retired in 2020. She is excited about living in Crane Hill, AL, on Smith Lake. During all the seasons, she enjoys painting the beautiful landscape scenes around the lake. Her passion for all things seen includes family, pet and house portraits. She did , but she also took as many art electives as possible while pursuing a successful future. She started painting seriously when her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Taking time off from a career as a physical and occupational therapist in orthopedics to help her mom negotiate the gruel of chemo, doctor appointments, and fatigue. They needed to have a little fun, so mom taught daughter to paint and it sparked the best 18 months they could ever have hoped for. Laura was officially hooked on painting and still is to this day. Laura LOVES color. You will see it in her paintings. She loves how color and form interact to strengthen each other. She loves to oil paint. No other medium can bring the colors that oils can. And, when (not if), you screw up, you can paint over it, wipe the paint off, scrape the paint off and keep going. Oils are such a forgiving medium which makes her love them even more. She wants colors to jump off the canvas and into your arms. She is passionate about food, wine, and travel, and these are some of the themes you will find in her work. She has been fortunate to study painting under some talented artists and teachers; Guildo Frick, the famous Russian Expressionist artist who was a student of Sergi Bongart, Linda Ellen Price, Sara Beth Fair, Gina Brown, and Cynthia Parsons.
